Club Spotlight: Yiddish Club

Mamie Rushkoff, Managing Editor

Since the 2021-2022 school year, many clubs have emerged. One of these clubs is Yiddish club, run and created by current Junior  Mimi Verba-Beaudoin. Mimi learned Yiddish on her own during her sophomore year. Since junior year is known to be busy, she was scared she would have little time to keep up her studies, so she thought of a solution: make learning Yiddish a club! This way Mimi could constantly learn and engage others in one of her interests.

The club meets once a week on Wednesdays at 3:15 in room H118. During meetings, club members watch movies in Yiddish, plan trips, and learn vocabulary. They even planned a movie night with Yiddish foods in the Blue Lecture Room. Mimi also mentioned that the club does “special [activities] related to each [Jewish] holiday”.

“People should join the club because it’s a fun, easy way to access Ashkenazi Jewish culture,” said Mimi. You do not have to be Ashkenazi to participate—the club is simply a fun way for anyone to learn new things.
