HHS Student Fundraising for Cancer Research
February 2, 2023
Victoria Lugomer-Pomper is participating in a seven-week challenge hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise money for cancer research. The challenge started on January 20 and goes until March 10. Lugomer-Pomper is competing against other high school students from all over Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT in the “Student Visionaries of the Year” campaign, working with a team of fellow HHS students, as well as some FMS students, to raise as much money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as possible by March 10. Lugomer-Pomper’s team members are Johana Nollen, Kaylee Arau, Emma Schlacter, Frieda Belasco, Valentina Dimnet, Callum McCabe, Jacob Levan, Andrew Tentoff, Victoria Gjocaj, Elizabeth Lugomer-Pomper, Eliana DiBonaventura, Rowan Frost, Sadie Ratcliffe, Isla Sherry, and Katie Mooney.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money and awareness to fight cancer. According to their website, the organization’s mission is to “cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”
Before this endeavor, Lugomer-Pomper had never participated in a campaign of this scale, but she knows that she is up to the challenge. As the team manager, her “responsibility is to communicate with the director of my division, present ideas, host team meetings, and keep people updated on how the process is going,” Lugomer-Pomper said. Some of the events that she and her team are hoping to put together include bake sales and a sporting event. She added, “I would like to take the time to thank everyone who is helping me in the process. I truly could not do it without the wonderful people who have decided to support me.”
