The high school club fair earlier this year was a vibrant showcase of student talent and interests, bringing together high school students in the courtyard. It was a perfect opportunity for students to explore the vast array of clubs, fostering the school’s sense of creativity and community.
As they filed into the courtyard, students were greeted by the colorful tables decorated with signs and snacks. A few clubs offered interactive activities, like the Robotics Team, that showcased the team’s robot and invited students to try something new.
The club fair is a great way for students to make connections beyond their grade. Freshmen, in particular, found it to be a welcoming experience to meet peers and upperclassmen, leaving them feeling more motivated to get involved in extracurriculars and social activities. Many of the people I surveyed felt relieved and excited to spark conversation with those with common interests. Freshmen were happy to join new clubs and get introduced to new opportunities that weren’t offered in the middle school. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors often joined clubs they had participated in prior, but were happy to explore new tables. A few of the most popular clubs included Garden Club, Astronomy Club, and Women’s Literature Club.
Overall, about half of students found that it was easy to navigate, whereas the remaining students suggested that “they should have it in a less crowded area, so it is easier to find the tables” and “they should make it clear where clubs are because [they] couldn’t find some of the clubs”. The majority of students found that they joined multiple clubs, but dropped out most of them following the ensuing weeks of school. Club representatives made posters to draw attention to their tables and encouraged students to join. One student suggested using skits to draw in more people. In conclusion, the club fair was a successful event that displayed the school’s diverse interests and gave students the opportunity to try new things.
