The Hastings High School One Acts, which will be performed on January 16th and 17th, is a show consisting of small student-run skits.
According to Franny Kastner, the senior General Director of the One Acts, the scenes “are primarily comedy.”
Franny explained that since the One Acts is fast paced and has many scene shifts, the team has to work together to prevent errors. “If one part of a shift is missing that whole scene will have to be without it.”
According to Franny, “Usually, we use skits from Saturday Night Live or Studio C.”
Franny explained that this year, however, more skits have been coming from other sources: “Directors have been finding other incredible websites and accounts that have great skits. Not to mention a hilarious skit written by seniors Jasper Zimmerman, Tyler Levan, and Leo Carr.”
Sylvie Black, the Tech Director and Stage Manager, also shared her excitement about the skits this year: “Every year, the directors bring something new to the table, and every year… a skit challenges me in a different way and I’m excited to see what skit does that this year.”
As one of Hastings High School´s most popular productions, Sylvie credits the One Act’s popularity to the inclusive environment it creates. “Everyone gets whatever opportunity they want, and everyone’s gained a lot of leadership from it because we all have to rise to the occasion of running the production by ourselves,” Sylvie explained.
“I’m really excited to work with Franny and Issac again, and to get to work with Franny for her last One Acts, and just have such an amazing crew.”
Franny shared that watching the show come together is one of the most exciting parts of the One Acts. “Watching the show and hearing the bow song start to play is such a sweet and beautiful moment for a lot of people in the show.”
