Ms. Melissa Hardesty, Assistant Principal of Hastings High School, officially resigned on Friday, November 22nd. After many years in Hastings, Ms. Hardesty shared she was both sad and excited to begin this new chapter.
“I will miss my colleagues…who are some of the nicest, kindest, smartest, funniest, most loyal people I’ve ever met in my life…. And the kids, you guys are a good bunch.”
Emphasizing that people make a huge difference, Ms. Hardesty shared that the individuals at Hastings High School are very accepting, making it a better school environment.
“[It] has warmed my heart…that you know people from all different backgrounds…and kids are really supportive and accepting of one another.”
The difference made by a good student and teacher body is made evident by Ms. Hardesty: “during the more difficult times where I was like…’Oh, I don’t want to come to work’…I just come here because of you guys.”
Although she is sad to leave, Ms. Hardesty shared her excitement to start her new job, where she will be working for a school security company with Mr. Louis Adipietro, the former principal of Hastings High School.
Ms. Hardesty shared, “I bought a lake house in Vermont, and I bought a house in Ballston Spa, New York. So I’ll be going between the two and subbing at local high schools.”
Outside of work, Ms. Hardesty enjoys skiing, kayaking and golfing in the summer and she is excited to continue these hobbies. She is also excited to hang out with her three dogs.
Although her time at Hastings High School has come to an end, “I’m not going to say goodbye,” Ms. Hardesty shared, “Say see you later.”
