What Is In the Future for Spring Sports

As Hastings High School enters its spring season, the school has many sports to offer. The sports to look forward to include softball, baseball, track and field, and golf:

Girls Varsity Softball

Coaches Kaitlin Degnan and Matthew Adipietro are excited for the upcoming season. The team returns nine players from their 2024 roster which concluded with a record of 10-10-1. They have a committed group of players who are looking forward to heading back down to Class B following their 2024 season in an extremely competitive Class A. They competed at a high level, and although their impact players from 2024 graduated, they are confident in their group of returners.

The team’s biggest strength for the 2025 season is their pitching staff as they return their two All-League pitchers, junior Siri Rosenberg and sophomore Hazel Sabella. The team is solidified with the return of junior catcher Lola Norlander, an all section honorable mention who led the team in nearly every offensive category for the 2024 season. Lastly, the team will rely on the commitment to the sport which is led by their senior duo consisting of second baseman Kylie Vulpone and designated hitter Abby Foster.

Boys Varsity Baseball

The team welcomes a new assistant coach, Scott Stampfl, to the program. Coach Stampfl brings ten years of varsity coaching experience.  The team finished 16-6 last season as a top-five Class A team. This season, they drop back down to Class B and are placed in a highly competitive six-team league which HHS aspires to win for the first time since 2017. Their league opponents include Blind Brook, Briarcliff, Dobbs Ferry, Tuckahoe, and Valhalla. The team will be led by co-captains Kieran McGrath (Vassar College baseball commit) and Jackson Acree (Saint Anselm College baseball commit). Senior pitchers Charlie Richardson, James Doherty, Nathan Krapf, Nick Puoti, Nitin Kodali, and Julius Stephens are among returning starters, which also include Johnny Sbrega, Andrew Ciszewski, and Aidan Curtis. They are looking forward to competing for a Section 1 title this year.

Junior Varsity Baseball

The team is coming off a 15-2-1 season last year, going 8-0 within league games. This season, the squad is excited to build on their strengths from last year and continue developing as a team. The players are focusing on developing their defensive skills, as well as trying to get a good rotation of players at new positions to learn. Coach Marello seems very excited and optimistic about the upcoming season.

Varsity Track & Field

Coach Theodule, Coach Ortiz, and Coach Guilfoyle have been planning the spring schedule and are eager to have the whole team back together on March 17. The squad has a great crew of returning upperclassmen who are ready to lead the way for the large number of new runners who are joining the team. The team has two girls who went to the spring state championships last year, and the coaches are excited to see how they will continue to grow and improve. Caitlin Thomas looks to be a state champion contender in both the 3000 meter and the 2000 meter steeplechase, and Danae Morgan aspires to be a state leader in the shot put and discus. The team is looking forward to exceptional teamwork and collaboration, as well as a fun and successful outdoor season.

Varsity Golf

The HHS golf team has created a special culture on the golf team of positivity, growth, and support for each other. They are looking forward to another season of enjoying this special connection, according to Coach Berger.

In terms of talent, the team has several returners with a chance to make sectionals. They include Caitlin Gellas, Sebastian Montequin, Anthony Martin, Eddie Ponegai, and Liam Finn among the team of over twenty players. The team is looking forward to getting better at golf, working hard, and having an enjoyable and memorable experience every day.
