
The softball team is off to a 10-3 start. Siri Rosenberg just hit the 200 strikeout milestone, which is a great accomplishment for her, as Coach Matt Adipietro says she has worked really hard to get to this point. The team is having tremendous offensive success, with a .342 batting average and a .493 on base percentage. In 13 games, the squad has scored 112 runs. In addition to the early success for the offense, the pitching has been good, as the pitching staff has only given up 55 runs, but most aren’t earned runs. The team is looking forward to the rest of the season and competing for a section title in Class B.
The baseball team is currently 7-7, 3-1 in the league. The team is competing to be league champions before entering the sectional tournament. Senior slugger Kieran McGrath leads New York State in home runs at this point of the season with five. Senior pitchers Nathan Krapf and Jackson Acree have solidified the pitching staff, as they each have three wins. Junior Matt Corbo has two home runs including a grand slam.
The season is going incredibly well. The golf team is now 8-1 overall and 4-1 in league play. Their low score for the season is 208 which is the lowest total a Hastings golf team has had in over a decade! They are striving to win the league title, which will be determined in a few short weeks. In addition to the team’s success, both Eddie Ponegai and Sebastian Montequin have had great individual success, as both are on track to make sectionals.
This season has been a challenging one for the lacrosse team. They are dealing with injuries and have rough numbers. In the midst of that, the team has kids that show up everyday and fight the good fight. The future looks bright with the JV team and the young guys. They are scrappy, hungry, and having fun playing!
Hastings JV Softball is currently 5-0. Defensively, the team has a .948 fielding percentage, with six errors and four double plays through five games played. Team captains, Roxy Griffin and Minah Choi-Phillips currently have a perfect fielding percentage with no errors through five games. Sofia Gagliano pitched a no-hitter with Leni Gagliano commanding the field as catcher through 5 innings played on April 24th (due to the mercy rule) in the team’s away win against Rye Neck. Offensively, the top three hitters currently are Catherine Rice with 13 hits, Sofia Gagliano with 12 hits and Kaitlyn Constantine with 11 hits.
The team has had recent success after starting the season 1-3-1, they are currently 5-4-1. The team relies on pitching from Anthony Moore, Andrew DiLeo, and Lucien Smith. The team has supported pitching with great hitting by Andrew Constantine, Ethan Malat, Bobby Jennerman including a homerun by Joe Sbrega.
Tennis has had a very strong season so far, and the team is on track to reach the team sectionals tournament. Their season’s highlights include two well-earned victories against Irvington. The team won 3-2 in Irvington and 4-1 at home. The future for Boys Varsity Tennis looks bright as the team has many young players who will keep improving over the coming years and hopefully make their team even stronger in the years to come.
This season the Trailblazers are filled with a bunch of new faces, and they are still trying to find their way. Sitting at 1-7, the team got its first win against an Irvington team they let off the hook on a 6-0 Irvington win the last meeting. There’s a ton of potential on the team, but they just have to put it together and play as a team.
The team is very young, as most of their players are freshmen and sophomores. They have had several meets so far at the Rye Palooza. Caitlin Thomas placed first in the 1500MM with a time of 4:44, and Danae Morgan placed 1st in Shot Put Throw 34.6. The girls placed first in the DMR with a time of 13:55, and the boys DMR placed third with a time of 14:05. At the Rye Relays, Caitlin improved in 1500MM again in first at 4:35. The girls had a strong showing at Croton Relays, as Danae Morgan placed first in Shot Put with a throw of 36´ and Discus 102´. The Girls DMR came in second with a time of 14:21 also the 4 x 400 with a time of 4:32. The 4 x200 came in fifth at 2:06. The 4×100 came in sixth 56.6. The freshman and sophomores had strong times in their home meets.
