High School Halloween, so what exactly do people do? Do highschoolers still trick or treat? Well, we surveyed 20 high school students to get firsthand information on their Halloween plans. Hastings as a town takes Halloween pretty seriously and has their own traditions for the Holiday. Activities such as Trunk or Treat, Chemka Ghoul, and the Hillside Halloween parade are all longstanding Halloween traditions specific to Hastings. Most of these highschoolers have grown up with these traditions in place, which raises the question- what do these traditions turn into as these Hastigns kids turn into teenagers? Do they totally disappear along with other childhood traditions or do they morph into something else? From our survey we gathered a wide range of answers. From photoshoots to taking a nap, the Halloween plans varied among people. Some are really into the holiday and have gone all out for Halloween. Some had up to four costumes and have been planning since July, while others put on some cat ears and called it a day.
Trick-or-treating is a Halloween tradition done by many people across the country on October 31st. It is a common event on Halloween that children mostly participate in. But when do you become too old to go trick or treating? In our survey we found that 40% of Hastings teens had no plans to go trick or treating, while 60% were definitely going/potentially going to go trick or treating. Even though it might not be “cool” to some in high schools to trick-or-treat, evidently, there is no real age that a kid has to stop.
Although trick-or-treating is a popular Halloween activity, it isn’t the only Halloween tradition, especially among teens. From our survey we gathered that teens also enjoy watching horror movies, hanging out with friends, going to concerts, and sleeping during Halloween.
However, the most important part of Halloween has to be the costumes. So what are Hastings highschoolers dressing up as? Some of the most popular costumes of 2024 were: Disney princesses (specifically Rapunzel), minions, the classic Alice and Wonderland group costume, Linguini from Ratatouille, We Bare Bears group costume, star wars, a leopard, Harley Quinn and the Joker, tinkerbell, angel, and Teen Titans characters.
Wearing costumes outside of school with your friends is one thing — but what were the costumes in school? As shown in the photos we have: Coraline, Velma, Cruella de Ville, pirate, guy on vacation, Dr. Teeth, emo kid, Pikachu, cat, and Paddington.
