As the winter season comes to a close, Hastings High School’s athletes have once again showcased their talent and dedication on the postseason stage. From the slopes to the track and the mat, the Yellow Jackets proved their competitive edge by excelling in skiing, track, and wrestling. With standout performances and impressive results across the board, this winter was one to remember for Hastings athletics.

Track
Our Varsity Indoor Track Team had Caitlin Thomas and Danae Morgan compete in Nike Indoor Nationals (NIN) in the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City. Also, Danae Morgan competed in the New Balance Nationals in Boston, Massachusetts. As always, Caitlin Thomas excelled in her race, placing fifth in the 5000 meter. Danae Morgan had an excellent performance in both events, throwing for the eighteenth best distance in the 20 pound weight throw at the NIN and thirty-fifth best distance in the New Balance Nationals. All in all, this was a season to write home about for the track team and something all team members should be proud of. |

Wrestling
In the wrestling sectionals, which was held in the Westchester County Center, Hastings had three notable athletes; senior Adam Hatim placed sixth in the 190 pound weight class, senior Callum Feeney came in fifth at 145 pound weight class, and senior Royal Peterson placed third at 145 pound weight class. Royal also had the fastest pin in the entirety of the sectionals at seven seconds. |
Skiing
The Hastings Varsity Skiing Team had an excellent end to their season. Sectionals went well, with senior Aidan Fromm winning the Boys Giant Slalom. Star skier Andrei Zuk, a sophomore, also placed in the Giant Slalom with fifth place, coming in at fifth in the Slalom as well. Aidan Fromm, on the other hand, got seventh place in the Slalom. Freshman Georgia Schmit got third place in the Girls’ Giant Slalom at Hunter Mountain in New York. The Skimeister Award was given to Aidan Fromm for his first place win and Andrei Zuk for his third place win. This award is presented to the skier with the fastest four combined times for their runs. Honorable mentions were awarded to freshmen Mattias Nollen and Desmond Cheumg for competing in sectionals. Andrei Zuk shared that “Hastings had an excellent second season and [he hopes the] next season can be just as great.” |
