Spring Sports Recap

Varisty Baseball

The Varsity Baseball team finished the season with a 12-8 record, securing runner-up in their league. They advanced to Section 1 Class B playoffs, where their season came to a close in a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Blind Brook in the quarterfinals. Pitcher Drew Ciszewski threw the first ever perfect game in Hastings school history, also marking the 11th no-hitter in school history. 

The team also participated in a five day spring training trip at Disney World in Florida, playing three scrimmages, two regular season games, and visiting all four Disney Theme Parks. Next year, Johnny Sbrega will continue his baseball career at Emerson College, and Matthew Corbo will continue his at Rockland Community College.

Varisty Golf
Varisty Golf

The Varsity Golf team continues to improve their game and build on their success. Anthony Martin recorded a 7.1 differential, while Liam Finn recorded a 7.0 differential. Sebastian Montequin played consistently strong golf throughout the season, finishing with a 3.2 differential, but narrowly missed qualifying for the Sectional Tournament.

Boys Lacrosse

The Boys Lacrosse team continued to develop and improve throughout the season, finishing on a high note with a solid win against Keio. Captain and midfielder Anthony Laboy will continue his lacrosse career at Alfred State College next year.

Girls Lacrosse

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team had a great season this year, showing consistent improvement and dedication throughout. Their goalie, Saydi Landon, reached an impressive milestone, making 100 saves this season.

Softball
Softball

The Varsity Softball team had an outstanding season, advancing to the semifinals of the Section One Class B Softball Tournament. Captain and pitcher Siri Rosenberg set a new school record with 282 strikeouts in a game against Rye Neck, breaking the previous record of 278. Rosenberg will continue her softball career at Skidmore College, while captain and catcher Lola Norlander will play at Keuka College next year.



Boys Tennis

The Varsity Boys Tennis team secured their place as co-champions of League DIIC. Despite missing their top four players–Andre Forrest, Eli Sundheim, Felix Casey, and William Andrus–the team fought hard in the Section One Division II Tournament, unfortunately losing to Briarcliff in a close 2-3 match in the quarterfinals. 

Track and Field
Track and Field

Track and Field athletes achieved impressive accomplishments this season. At the League Championships, the Girls Team finished in 2nd place, and 21 athletes finished in the top five of their events. Hastings also captured six 1st places, winning league titles: Hazel Kuniholm in the 800 Meter; Claire Grushko in the 3000 Meter; Danae Morgan in both shot put and discus; Alyssa Schlacter in javelin; and Hazel Kuniholm, Gia Levinson, Jennifer Schofield, & Claire Grushko in the 4×800 Meter Relay. 

Overall, Hastings Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field had a record-breaking season. School records broken this spring included Danae Morgan in the shot put, javelin, discus, and hammer throw; Kai Ghalib in the 100m, 200m, and 400m; Prita Berry in the high jump; and Maxwell Silva-Steeves in the javelin. The team will continue its season at the NYSPHSAA State Championships on June 13–14.



Flag Football

The Flag Football team, or the Trailblazers, welcomed many new players this season and worked hard improving every day. Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for sectionals. Francesca Molakides led the offense, scoring many touchdowns and helping drive the team’s attack throughout the season.
