In his junior year, Lucas Seelye is already making a name for himself as one of the standout athletes on the Hastings football team. As a versatile player who excels as both a wide receiver (WR) and safety, Lucas has been a key contributor to his team’s success this season. His impressive statistics, combined with his leadership on and off the field, make him an exciting player to watch. Through the first seven games of the season, he has recorded 23 catches for 400 yards, three touchdowns, four interceptions, and 34 tackles.
Seelye says the best part of playing football is being surrounded by teammates he’s known for years. “They’re all people I’ve known for a while, and I just enjoy going out there every day and playing hard,” he shared. His connection with his teammates is clear, and his leadership role is evident in the way he helps drive the team forward.
Before each game, Lucas likes to keep things simple and relaxed. “I eat a good meal, relax, maybe take a little nap, and then listen to some calm music,” he explained. His pre-game playlist often includes peaceful sounds like waterfalls, with a touch of hip-hop mixed in for energy. This balance of relaxation and focus helps him prepare mentally for the challenges ahead.When it comes to food, his go-to pre-game meal is chicken, rice, and pasta, providing the right balance of protein and carbs to fuel him for the game.
His favorite moment of the season so far has been winning the team’s first game against Rye Neck. “It felt great because they were a good team, and we played really well,” he said. That victory helped set the tone for the rest of the season, and Seelye is determined to keep the momentum going.
In addition to his personal achievements, Lucas has clear goals for the remainder of the season. “I want to win a playoff game, he said, emphasizing his desire. Confident in his team’s potential, Lucas is optimistic about the future. “I think we’re gonna have a winning season,” he explains. “Hopefully, go five and three and win a playoff game.”
His impact on the field is not just limited to his stats; he plays a pivotal role in motivating his team. Johnny Sbrega, a senior and one of the team’s leading members, spoke highly of Lucas. “Lucas makes a very positive impact on our team on both sides of the ball. Whether it’s defense or offense, period, his interceptions and clutch catches always shift the game in our favor. He is also a great leader and captain, giving great speeches before every game,” Johnny said.
Lucas’ focus, discipline, and passion for football not only inspire his teammates but also reflect the spirit of the program.
