Varsity Boys Soccer:
Halfway through the season, the boys varsity soccer team is 5-2-1. Roland Soeiro leads the team in points with six goals and three assists. The team has strong veteran leadership, with 10 seniors on the roster. Their biggest team highlight of the season has been a 3-2 win over Albertus Magnus. Tied 2-2 with a minute left, Soeiro scored off a corner kick to secure the victory.
JV Boys Soccer:
The team is doing well so far this season, holding a 5-3 record. Two of the three losses came from schools who are in Class A. The offense has been able to sustain pressure on the opponents while creating opportunities, scoring an average of 4 goals a game. At the same time, the defense has provided the team with solid effort and the ability to hold teams to an average of under 3 goals per game.
Varsity Girls Soccer:
The girls varsity soccer team has had a competitive regular season thus far. They are currently 4-4-2 (W-L-D) and are contesting for a seed in the playoffs for their class. After falling short in a competitive league matchup 4-6 at Tuckahoe in the middle of September, the team bounced back with a strong, well-rounded performance at their homecoming game against Irvington, winning the match 3-1. Then, Hastings went on to defeat Haldane 8-0 in a dominant victory. The squad is building momentum for the final stretch of the regular season before the playoffs. Sage Wrzesinski and Kaya Israel have both surpassed 10 career varsity goals this season, while Emmy Taylor has accumulated 23 points so far. Their goalie, Rory McKinnon, along with the rest of the defense, has contributed to helping the team secure three clean sheets in 10 games.
JV Girls Soccer:
The soccer team has had only two matches so far. While they lost tough matches to Albertus Magnus and Bronxville, two Class B powerhouse teams, Bella Conetta scored a fantastic goal against Albertus Magnus on a 35-yard direct free-kick. The team looks forward to a rematch against Bronxville at home on 9/27 and a match at Briarcliff on 9/29.
Varsity Field Hockey:
The team has gotten off to a strong start with a 5-5 record. Their captain, Carlin McKinnon is leading with goals. In their most recent game, Carlin and Celia Ayuso both scored goals, leading to a 2-1 win over Byram Hills. The team currently has a five game win streak.
Varsity Girls Tennis:
Current Record: League 4:2, Non-League 1:2
The squad’s highlights so far include a close 4:1 victory in Nanuet and a hard-fought 3:2 win over Dobbs Ferry on September 5th at home. They’ve had many tight matches that were decided in tiebreakers. The tennis team is competing in a strong league together with their biggest rival, Irvington. Irvington won their first match, but Hastings is looking forward to their rematch in early October.
Boys & Girls Cross Country:
The team had an enormous homecoming victory against Briarcliff, Tuckahoe, and Kieo. This cross country team continues to set the standard with determination, teamwork, and an incredible work ethic. They continue to push through tough workouts and support one another through many new personal bests so far, and hopefully, more to come.
